Major James D. Leibee

Major James D. Leibee enlisted in the Marine Corps on 17 September 1995. After attending, recruit training at Paris Island, SC and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC he reported to Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School (MCCES) 29 Palms, Ca in January 1996 and was assigned the military occupational skill of 2841, Communications- Electronics Maintenance Repairman.

Upon graduation, he reported to 2d Bn, 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he immediately returned to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), 29 Palms to take part in Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) 5/6 from February through June 1997. Upon returning to Camp Lejeune, NC, Major Leibee attended the Direct Support Level Maintenance Course for the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS).

After graduation, he executed permanent change of assignment (PCA) orders to 5th Bn, 10th Marines where he would deploy back to MCAGCC, 29 Palms for CAX 9/10 from August through November 1997. In January 1998, Major Leibee was promoted to the rank of Corporal and attended Corporal’s Leadership Course in March 1998.

In September 1999, Major Leibee received orders to Communications Company, 3d Force Service Support Group (FSSG) aboard Camp Kinser, Okinawa for duty as a ground radio repair course. While in Okinawa, Major Leibee established the first Single Marine Program concept in Marine Forces Pacific aboard Camp Kinser, Okinawa. On 1 November 1999, Major Leibee was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and subsequently attended Sergeant Course on Camp Hansen in April of 2000.

Major Leibee was reassigned back to MCCES, 29 Palms from August 2000 to May 2001 for career progression training. While there, he attended the Technician Theory Course and Radio Fundamentals course where he ultimately acquired the MOS of 2862, Ground Electronics Technician.

Upon completion of school, Major Leibee received orders to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. While there he served in the billets of platoon sergeant, Ground Radio Repair Chief, and the Data Communications Maintenance Chief. Major Leibee was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant while afloat aboard the USS Ashland on 1 February 2003. In 2004, Major Leibee would again execute PCA orders to 2d Bn 6th Marines for duties as the Battalion Communications-Maintenance Chief.

From July 2006 through December 2009, Major Leibee was assigned to Inspector-Instructor Staff, 6th Communications Battalion, Brooklyn, New York. While there he participated in numerous community relations projects and appeared on several morning television shows to include the Montel Williams show in order to promote the Marine Corps and Toys for Tots programs. Every year, the I&I staff would collect more than 400,000 new unwrapped toys to hand out to more than 200,000 children in the New York City five boroughs. Major Leibee achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in 2007 and attended the SNCO Advanced course in 2009.

In January 2010, Major Leibee reported to The Basic School for the Warrant Officer Basic Course. Immediately following graduation in May 2010, Major Leibee was assigned to 2d Intelligence Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC for duties as the Battalion Maintenance Officer. While there, he would serve in billets as the S-4 Officer, Maintenance Management Officer, and Special Signals Platoon Officer in Charge. Major Leibee was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2 on 1 August 2011.

From 2013 to 2015, Maj Leibee reported to 2d Tank Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC for duty as the Battalion Ground Electronics Maintenance Officer where he attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 on 1 August 2014 and then was subsequently selected as a Limited Duty Officer and promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 August 2015.

In September 2015, Major Leibee executed orders to Communication Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan. While there he would serve as the Maintenance Management Officer, Executive Officer and Company Commander. In 2017, he executed orders to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing where he would serve as the Wing Ground Electronics Maintenance Officer under the Assistant Chief of Staff (AC/S) G-6. In 2019, Major Leibee would be transferred again to Electronics Maintenance Company, 3d Maintenance Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group where he would serve as the Executive Officer. One year later, Major Leibee was in receipt of PCA orders to his present unit of 7th Communications Battalion where he would take command of Service Company. On July 23, 2021, Major Leibee was assigned as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Detachment, Keesler AFB, MS.

Major Leibee obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from Ashford University. In 2020, he obtained his private pilot’s license for single engine aircraft. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars.
