The 81st Training Wing is wrapping-up the yearlong celebration of the installation’s 75th anniversary with a gala Nov. 4 at the Bay Breeze Event Center.

The gala, which will have a 1940s-1950s theme, begins at 6 p.m. and includes live entertainment, wine tasting and catering by a variety of local restaurants.

“We wanted to find a unique way to celebrate the rich history of Keesler and the local community,” said Master Sgt. Tiffany Patterson, 81st TRW career assistance advisor and even coordinator. “Additionally, we wanted to display our gratitude by honoring Lt. Keesler’s commitment to the U.S. Air Force along with his family. Throughout the year, Keesler has held many events to celebrate this milestone and the gala is our way of culminating this special occasion.”

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the gala’s retro theme when choosing their outfit. There are also a limited number of heritage uniforms attendees can borrow for the event.

“There are different uniforms from the Air Force's history in a variety of sizes attendees can borrow,” said Master Sgt. Jeffery Lerohl, 81st Comptroller Squadron flight chief and event coordinator. “The uniforms belong to James Lachute who works on base and is very interested in history. He has collected these over time and has graciously offered to let members wear them to the event.”

Service members who do not wear 1940s-1950s themed attire should wear semi-formal or mess dress.

“This is not your typical military style event,” said 1st Lt. Malinda Meuse, 81st Medical Operations Squadron clinical nurse and event project officer. “The goal is to bring people together to celebrate this special occasion in a relaxed cocktail style atmosphere. All three floors of the Bay Breeze Event Center will be utilized and will be full of food from local vendors, wine tasting and historical displays along with live entertainment and performances going on throughout the evening. This is going to be an amazing event and we want to see everyone there creating unforgettable memories.”

Tickets cost $18 for club members and $20 for non-club members. Sales run through Nov. 2 and each unit has a ticket sale representative. For more information about the event, to purchase tickets, or to borrow a heritage uniform, contact your unit representative.
