440 member completes seventh Boston Marathon

Lt. Col. Therese Kern, Chief Nurse Deputy Commander of the 440th Medical Squadron, Pope Field, North Carolina, ran in the 2012 Summerfest Rock 'N Sole half marathon, held in Milwaukee, Wisc. Kern completed the run in a time of one hour and fifty-three minutes placing 20th out of 169 runners in her age group. Proceeds from the run benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of eastern Wisconsin.

U.S. Air Force Dietitian of the Year 2010

After a six month deployment in Afghanistan and completion of numerous assignments while in the AOR Maj. Christi logan, 440th Airlift Wing dietitian, was awarded with the U.S. Air Force Outstanding Company Grade Dietitian of the Year Award for 2010. Col. Eugene Gaspard, Commander of the 440 Medical Suqadron had the honor of presenting Maj. Logan with the award. Maj. Logan was the first Air Force Reserve dietitian to deploy to a combat zone. While deployed Maj. Logan and her team initiated nutrition programs designed to assist wounded servicemembers heal faster, worked hand-in-hand with the "Army MOVE" program and instructed an Afghan Medical Mentorship program offering 16 Afghan medical providers their first formal nutrition education, to mention a few. When asked how she coordinated so many programs Maj. Logan made it clear that she realied heavily on her team and her military training.

Sergeant Ilanka Kocis is promoted to Chief Master Sgt.

After 25 years of military service Sergeant Ilinka E. Kocis was promoted to Chief Master Sgt. during the June 2012 Unit Training Assembly at Pope Field, N.C. Currently Chief Kocis serves as the 440th Airlift Wing's Logistics Readiness Squadron Superintendent. During her official ceremony Chief Kocis was joined by her family as they provided the traditional bunch to the arm signifying promotion in rank. On the chief's left are her two sons Senior Airman Matthew Presley and Airman Branko Presley. To her right are her husband Tech. Sgt. Thomas Kocis Jr. and her daughter Angelina Presley.

Sergeant Candice Chesley is promoted to Chief Master Sgt.

With over 29 years of military service Sergeant Candice Chesley was promoted to the rank of Chief Master Sgt. during the June 2012 Unit Training Assembly at Pope Field, N.C. Currently Chief Chesley is the Senior Air Reserve Technician and Squadron Superintendent for the 440th Airlift Wing Medical Squadron. In the image Chief Chesley is congratulated by Chief Master Sgt. Mike Witchek and her son Airman 1st Class Donald J. Chesley. Airman Chesley just completed technical school and will serve with the 440th Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit here at Pope Field. Serving in the military is a way of live for the Chesley family. Chief Chesley's husband of 28 years Steven Chesley is an Air Force veteran and currently works at the Fayetteville VA dental lab as a dental technician. Cheif's daughter Megan Townsend joined the active duty Air Force as an Intelligence Technician and is currently serving as a Reservist at Beale AFB, Ca.

Chaplains and their little white truck

Chaplain William Fisher and chaplain's assistant Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Preece, from the 440th Airlift Wing's chaplain's office, Pope Field, N.C. take their ministry to the flightline. Every Tuesday and Thursday the chaplains load up their truck with beverages and snack to pay a visit the the Airmen who perform day-to-day maintenance on the C-130H aircrafts. The little white truck has become a very familair and welcome addition to the 440 personnel. The visit provides Airmen a chance to get to know their chaplain's as well as the personnel they work along side.
