"Sole" Survivor

In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness month, a “Sole” Survivor shoe display is planned for Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Bragg Mini Mall. In preparation for the event, the Pope Field Sexual Assault Response Coordinator’s office (SARC) is collecting used pairs of shoes. To participate please bring shoes to the SARC office located in the Airman Family Readiness Center, Building 431 by March 31.

The 440th Airlift Wing Logistics Readiness Squadron, Pope Field, N.C., earned the title of 22nd Air Force LRS of the Year for 2010. On behalf of the squadron, Maj Meredith Curran, 440 LRS commander, accepted the award from Col. Merle Hart, 440 AW commander. Among the Squadron's notable accomplishments were: short notice Total Force deployment of personnel and spares kits to support Haitian earthquake relief efforts in support of Operation Unified Response; deploying multiple personnel in support of Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; BRAC implementation and support agreement negotiations; Ensuring asset accountability by reconciling nearly 1,000 missing assets from Milwaukee and Willow Grove ARBs. Colonel Almodovar is leaving the 440th Airlift Wing to start an assignment with the USAF Transportation Command headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. “Leaving a command is part of the role as an officer and commander,” said Colonel Almodovar, “but you cannot get accustomed to leaving the people.” During his career, Colonel Almodovar's duties have included Chief of Finance and Accounting, squadron commander, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Group Commander Colonel Almodovar deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, from January 2004 until June 2004, to the Coalition Headquarters in the Green zone, where he served as the Chief of Staff /Operations Officer for the Strategic Communications Directorate and as the Coalition's Operations Security Program Manager. Airman 1st Class David Clingerman, 27, who recently attended the January 2011 Newcomers Flight at Pope Field, is a member of the 440th Public Affairs office. Airman Clingerman enlisted in early 2010 and after basic training attended the broadcasting specialist course at Fort Meade's Defense Information School and will complete seasoning training at Robins Air Force Base this Spring. A Sanford, N.C. native, Airman Clingerman holds an associate's degree in graphics from Academy of Design, Toronto, Canada and applied his talents to the January, 2011, Combat Airlifter newsletter. "The newsletter was fun to work on and I was able to use the graphics skills I learned at college," said Airman Clingerman. " Capt. Torri White, Chief of 440th Public Affairs added, "The skills Airman Clingerman has brought to the PA shop and this wing increased our ability to place quality information into the hands of our Combat Airlifters through our newsletter and web page."
