Holiday card contest winners

The 81st Contracting Squadron won first place in the most Classic category of the Holiday Card contest, Dec. 9, 2011. The holiday cards are on display on Larcher Blvd. south of the base exchange. Other winners were the 333rd Training Squadron for most Innovative category and the 81st Force Support Squadron for most Charismatic category. The judging was done by Kimberly Nastasi CEO of Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce and her staff. Each winning unit will receive 200 Dragon Dollars to offset Holiday parties at the Bay Breeze Event Center or pavilion at Outdoor Recreation, and can also be used at the Bowling Center, Golf Tournaments or other Services activities. The new library, part of a $20 million complex that also houses a new civic center, replaces the former structure on Lameuse Street that was decimated by Hurricane Katrina nearly six years ago. Members of the 81st Medical Group senior staff were joined by Col. Glen Downing, left, 81st Training Wing vice commander, Nov. 16 as they served a traditional Thanksgiving meal to patrons of the 81st Diagnostics and Therapeutics Squadron cafeteria. Working “the line” with Colonel Downing are, from left, Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Kory Cornum, 81st MDG commander; Col. David Garrison, 81st MDG deputy commander; and Chief Master Sgts. Deborah Strickland, 81st Surgical Operations Squadron superintendent; and Michael Anderson, 81st MDG superintendent. Other staff members helped out throughout the 11 a.m.-1 p.m. meal period. The 81st MDTS Nutritional Medicine Flight staff prepared 340 pounds of turkey, 95 pounds of ham and 200 servings of stuffing plus assorted desserts enjoyed by more than 600 customers.
