The Keesler Fitness Assessment Cell’s new location was officially unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony March 1 at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.

Effective March 4, the FAC will operate out of the old Health and Wellness Center, building 4104, near the Dragon Fitness Center.

The move was aimed at improving the fitness needs of Keesler.

“The greatest benefit is that we are providing a location that is fit for the mission of our base and our Airmen,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Amber Ortiz, 81st Force Support Squadron commander.

Furthermore with this move, the Crotwell track next to the Blake Fitness Center was added as an authorized testing track for fitness assessments. This will enhance the options for members when choosing where they’re most comfortable accomplishing the aerobic component of the test.
Airmen will be offered the option of either six laps at the Crotwell Track or three laps at the Triangle Track, which was previously the only option for testing.

Maj. Erin Holland, 81st FSS operations officer, explained that the strategic move will be beneficial for a few reasons.

“For nine years, we’ve been operating out of an older building that has had infrastructure challenges, especially during the summer months,” Holland said. “With this move we’ll not only gain a better facility to conduct testing, but it will give FAC staff much needed administrative space and centrally locate us near our two authorized tracks and shower facilities inside the Dragon Fitness Center.”
