Brian L. Thompson

Mr. Thompson serves as the Director of Staff, 81st Training Wing, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi (MS). The 81st Training Wing provides technical training for officers, enlisted, and civilians of the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves, as well as other Department of Defense agencies. Keesler’s technical training includes numerous electronic, computer, weather, medical, personnel, comptroller and information management career fields creating the combat capability for air expeditionary and space forces.

As Keesler’s senior ranking civilian, Mr. Thompson advises staff on mission effectiveness, professional development, military readiness, training, utilization, health, morale, and the welfare of Keesler’s 12,000 military and civilians. Mr. Thompson works closely with the local community and civic leaders to enhance Keesler and the surrounding community relationships.

Mr. Thompson was born in Denison, TX and was raised in the Shawnee, OK area. He spent three years in the U.S. Navy as a Personnelman on the USS John F. Kennedy. He was hired as a Jet Engine Mechanic at Tinker AFB and completed his degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. He then became a Logistics Management Specialist and started his professional career path where he held several positions in logistics and program management.

Mr. Thompson’s previous assignment was Lead Program Manager for the F101-102A and F118-100 Engine Team for Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He was responsible for coordinating with the Supply Chain, Equipment Specialists, Engineers, Defense Logistics Agency and Maintenance specialists to ensure support and life-cycle sustainment of both Engine Programs. He developed detailed, complex strategic assessments for the current and future of the program to support the warfighter. In addition, he provided AFLCMC leadership with War Readiness Engine risk assessments and corresponded with Propulsion leadership and business stakeholders to ensure the Air Force had a ready, safe, affordable, and effective engine system.

Mr. Thompson’s previous assignments included Propulsion Maintenance Squadron Deputy at Tinker AFB where he oversaw more than 300 personnel. In this capacity, he had oversight of the production overhaul and repair of workloads supporting the Air Force’s new PublicPrivate Partnership concept. Mr. Thompson had previously served as the liaison in the U N I T E D S T A T E S A I R F O R C E Business Office for the Propulsion Group that brought in the Partnership workload where he worked to have the Enterprise leverage strengths to better serve the warfighter for the new 5th Generation fighter engines.
