81st Training Wing Safety Office

The Wing Safety Office manages the installation’s safety programs for the Installation Commander. The Safety Office oversees implementation of Keesler’s mishap prevention programs and advises commanders, functional managers, supervisors, and employees on safety matters. Keesler safety programs encompass occupational, aviation, and explosive safety disciplines.


Mishap Investigation and Reporting


Report all mishaps that occur on-duty and all off-duty mishaps involving assigned military personnel, to the Wing Safety Office. The AF Form 978 will be used to document mishaps to the Unit Commander and the Installation Safety Office.  The involved/injured personnel’s supervisor shall complete the form, route it through the commander, and return it to the installation safety office within five (5) workdays following notification.

Education and Training


The Wing Safety Office conducts a variety of safety courses at Keesler.

 

  • Supervisor Safety Training (SST):  Trains supervisors in management skills needed to implement safety policies and programs.
  • Introductory Traffic Safety Course:  Provides mandatory traffic safety training for military service members under the age of 26.
  • Local Conditions Course: Provides local conditions information during the installation newcomers' orientation program and to personnel in temporary duty (TDY) status for 30 calendar days or more.
  • Motorcycle Operator Training: Provides DoD-mandated training to military personnel, who operate or intend to operate a motorcycle on a roadway.

NOTE: Motorcycle operators must possess a valid motorcycle license, endorsement or learners permit to attend AF sponsored motorcycle training.
