Improperly disposed materials prevent proper drainage
Coffee grounds are placed in a water fountain which will prevent proper drainage and may stick to other substances that can cause sewage backups. There have been three major sewage backups within two months in which small amounts of raw sewage were actually running the streets at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Bags, wrappers, solvents, paints and flammable and corrosive substances are also being improperly disposed of into some workplace and residential drains. (U.S. Air Force photo by Kemberly Groue)
