81st MDOS deploys DOD-first stent technology
Lt. Col. (Dr.) Matthew Hann, 81st Medical Operations Squadron catheterization laboratory director, prepares to deploy the Synergy Stent into a patient’s artery via their wrist to clear a blockage, Nov. 4, 2015, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. The stent combines features of older-style bare metal stents and newer drug-eluding stents, and has a bio-absorbable polymer layer which holds medicine to the stent. Currently, the Keesler Medical Center is the only hospital in the Defense Department to offer this new technology, and one of only 20 hospitals in the United States.
