KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- U. S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Fredrick L. Thrower, former 19th Air Commando Squadron combat controller from Jackson County, Arkansas, was killed in Southeast Asia on Sept. 4, 1967, while engaged in resupply actions for U.S. Army ground forces in Southeast Asia.
Thrower was a member of an element of Combat Controllers on board a C-123K Provider. Their mission was to relieve another 4 man element providing support to the Bao Loc airstrip in South Vietnam.
The aircraft never arrived at its scheduled destination and all personnel onboard were considered killed in action. Prior to his career as a combat controller, Thrower was an air traffic controller and instructor at Keesler.
