Holidays + alcohol = hazardous mixture Published Nov. 27, 2007 81st Training Wing safety office KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, MISS. -- -- -- The holiday season is traditionally a time for family, friends and celebration. It's also a period of in-creased potential for serious mishaps. The season coincides with increased hazards from longer hours of darkness, adverse weather conditions, increased stress and chaotic activity levels. Supervisors are geared toward implementing effective mishap prevention activities during the holidays. Particular emphasis and control measures are required to prevent serious or fatal accidents involving those who participate in gatherings where alcohol is served. Alcohol-related accident prevention measures: Stressing responsible use of alcoholic beverages. Monitoring people known to be irresponsible in the use of alcoholic beverages. Ensuring sufficient food and non-alcoholic beverages are available. Emphasizing the buddy system by never leaving an individual who appears to be intoxicated alone. Securing car keys if necessary.
