TRICARE adds breast pump coverage Published July 14, 2015 By 81st Medical Group KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- On July 1, 2015, TRICARE began covering breast pumps and breast pump supplies with no copay or cost-share for new mothers, including mothers who adopt an infant and plan to breastfeed with retroactive coverage to Dec. 19, 2014. One manual or one standard electric breast pump for each birth is covered. Breast pump kits are also covered, as well as breast pump supplies such as standard power adapters, tubing and tubing adaptors, locking rings, bottles, bottle caps, shield/splash protectors and storage bags. In addition TRICARE will allow up to six outpatient visits for individual breastfeeding/lactation counseling sessions per birth when rendered by a TRICARE-authorized provider. There are two ways to obtain a breast pump. 1. Obtain a referral for a breast feeding pump and the pump will be delivered to your home. You will avoid upfront and out of pocket costs. 2. Purchase the pump from an authorized provider and submit a claim form (Defense Department Form 2642) with the prescription and an itemized receipt to be reimbursed. Authorized providers are the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, retail stores or online providers. Beneficiaries can contact Humana Military at 1-800-444-5445 or at www.humana-military.com for more information.
