Singles resiliency retreat aims to energize, de-stress Published June 16, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Duncan McElroy 81st Training Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The Keesler Chapel is hosting a single Airmen resiliency retreat in Baton Rouge, Louisiana June 26-28. Open to single, active-duty permanent party Airmen, the trip's expenses are paid by the chapel, including a chartered bus to the hotel in Baton Rouge. The retreat aims to give Airmen an opportunity to relax and socialize in a no-stress, no-threat setting. "The retreat is designed for service members recently coming back from deployment, but it's open to all single active-duty Airmen," said Chaplain (Capt.) Rashaundra Singleton, 81st Training Wing chaplain. "We want to offer an opportunity to relax, recoup and network with peers." Featuring short workshops with airman and family readiness personnel, mental health and the chapel, the weekend getaway is meant to give opportunities to practice resiliency while ensuring participants can spend the weekend how they want. "There will be short segments with mental health and airman and family readiness, but this weekend isn't about presentations and being talked at," explained Singleton. "We're keeping things short so you can focus on what the weekend's about - you." In addition to the hotel and charter bus, attendees will also have opportunities to explore downtown Baton Rouge, visit a water park, attend a group dinner and participate in a Sunday worship service. "Bottom line is that we're here if you need us, but it's your weekend," added Chaplain (Capt.) Matthew Limon, 81st TRW chaplain. "Many of the scheduled events are completely optional. This is a chance for the chapel to help people get their balance back." "This trip is a way for us to give people what they need," said Singleton. "It's also a way for us to say thank you for everything Keesler Airmen do." Signup is on a first-come, first-serve basis with several of the 40 available slots remaining. Those that sign up will need to coordinate with their supervisors to leave early on Friday. For more information or to sign up, visit or call the Triangle Chapel, 228-377-2111.
