Youth learn job skills, earn credits for grant funds Published April 28, 2015 By Air Force Aid Society KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The Youth Employment Skills program is a base youth volunteer program funded by the Air Force Aid Society and jointly administered with the installation's airman and family services flight. This program for active-duty and Title 10 Air Force dependents in grades 9-12 provides an opportunity for Air Force teens to learn valuable work skills while having a positive impact on their base community. YES allows all certified and enrolled high school students to "bank" volunteer dollar credits toward their post-secondary education or training at a rate of $4 per hour volunteered in a position on base. Up to 250 hours may be accumulated for a potential $1,000 grant maximum over all four years of high school. In addition, the base youth program "banks" community service credits at a rate of $2 for every hour volunteered per student, up to a maximum of $10,000 per program year, June 1 through May 31. The program is managed by the installation youth director. For more information for students as well as units willing to host a YES volunteer, call 377-4116.
