March is National Nutrition Month and this year's theme is "Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle."

To be healthy, your body needs to get enough vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Eating healthy means getting plenty of:

· Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk products
· Seafood, lean meats and poultry, eggs, beans, peas, seeds, and nuts

According to healthfinder.gov, eating healthy also means limiting:

· Cholesterol, sodium (salt) and added sugars
· Trans fats, which may be in foods like cakes, cookies, stick margarines and fried foods
· Saturated fats, which come from animal products like cheese, fatty meats, whole milk and butter
· Foods made with refined grains, like white bread, noodles, white rice and flour tortillas

We will have weekly updates on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle starting with getting a well-balanced diet. Every week there will be a different topic explained.

Join us next week as delve into the world of protein.
