The Order of Daedalians inducted Col. Dennis Scarborough, 81st Training Wing vice commander, Dec. 19 at the Bay Breeze Event Center, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

Scarborough, a rated F-15C Eagle pilot, is one of two current Keesler personnel to be a member of the Daedalians. Lt. Col. Ryan Conner, 81st Training Wing safety chief, is the other member of the local chapter.

The Order of Daedalians was founded by American World War I aviators who were commissioned officers and military-trained pilots, explained retired Lt. Col. Dean Todd, the Biloxi chapter's flight captain.

Active or retired service members of any branch may be considered for membership as long as they are commissioned officers and trained to fly by the military, Todd said.

More than anything, Scarborough hopes being a part of this organization will give him a chance to honor those that came before him.

"They're the heart and soul of these chapter organizations," he said.

"To hear and absorb their heritage, stories and histories allows me to put my experiences in context and to hopefully encourage the youth of today to apply for the scholarships the order provides," he continued.

Scarborough plans on contributing to the Daedalians by taking part in speaking engagements and other events to fuel the legacy of military pilots, as well as inspire the next generation to step forward and take the reins.

"Honor the past, embrace the present, and encourage the future - that's what it's all about," said Scarborough.
