Family advocacy programs now available Published Jan. 9, 2015 By Paula Spooner 81st Medical Operations Squadron KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The family advocacy program offers a variety of classes to build and maintain healthy relationships through March for anyone with access to the base. Anger Management This class has individuals learn tools to identify and cool out of control emotions, recognize distorted beliefs and triggers, relax the body, and regain self-control. Classes are 1-2:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 20 and 27 and Feb. 3, 10 and 17 in the Arnold Annex classroom. Parenting with Love and Logic for Early Childhood This course helps parents prepare children under age 6 for the challenges of "the real world." The course focuses on four main concepts - building a sound self-concept, sharing the control, offering empathy, and sharing the thinking. Through a series of "love and logic" experiments, learn to turn your child's mistakes or misbehavior into opportunities for learning and growth without losing your cool. Classes are 8:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 and 28 and Feb. 4 and 11 in the Arnold Annex classroom. Parenting the Love and Logic Way for children age 6 and older This training offers simple, easy-to-learn tools that have immediate and positive effects. Learn to teach your kids about personal responsibility, character, problem-solving and natural and logical consequences by putting the responsibility for your child's behavior back on your child. A workbook is provided. Classes are 8:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 and 28 and Feb. 4 and 11 in the Arnold Annex classroom. Dads 101 This two-session class prepares the expecting or new dad for everything from mood swings and basic baby care to bonding and stress management. Humor-filled and discussion-based, it's relaxed, fun and led by a father who's been through it all. Classes are 1-4 p.m. Feb. 18 and 19 in the Arnold Annex classroom. PREP for Strong Bonds This four-week class is for couples who want to strengthen their relationship. Learn to identify communication danger signs, hidden issues and develop expectations for your relationship. Improve problem-solving skills by becoming a better listener and by expressing your needs more clearly and see your relationship in a whole new light. A workbook is included. Classes are 8:30-10:30 a.m. March 3, 4, 10 and 11 in the Arnold Annex classroom. Fortify Your Life This seven-week class is an opportunity for women to come together in a safe, social environment to improve self-awareness and understand inner strength. Sessions focus on specific life areas, explore new ideas and teach skills to apply in daily life. Lesson examples include recognizing, naming and expressing feelings; establishing boundaries; trust; maintaining healthy relationships and building self-esteem. Classes are 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26 and March 5, 12 and 19 at a location to be announced. Registration is required for all classes.
