KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The Keesler men’s varsity basketball team defeated Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., 90-87, Oct. 24 at the Blake Fitness Center, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.
Eglin was Keesler’s second opponent of a 16 game season.
“What we try to stress with our program is we have to make sure we play good solid defense, not turn the ball over, and fundamentally we have to rebound the ball on a consistent basis, “ said Stephen Harris, Keesler head coach.
Harris stated he was glad their team got the win, despite giving up too many offensive rebounds.
“The game was actually a very intense game,” said Master Sgt. Lavar Gilliam, 81st Medical Support Squadron. “It was very fast paced, up and down and exhausting. All in all it was a great game and very competitive.”
Their current record is 1-1 but Gilliam expects their team to improve as the season continues.
Harris hopes their team can once again compete on the national level, like in their 2010 national championship season.
“Our goal is to win our conference championship at the end of the year and then go back and compete for a national championship,” he said.
