The Base Chapel is currently offering sign-ups for a Thanksgiving dinner for non-prior service Airmen through the 19th annual “Home Away from Home” program, at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.

During “Home Away from Home,” families that volunteer to host provide a Thanksgiving meal for two or more Airmen in their home.

“For a lot of our students this is the first time they have been away from home, particularly on the holidays, so it can be a rough time for them,” said Chaplain (Capt.) Wade Matuska, 81st Training Wing chaplain. “Home Away from Home gives students a home cooked meal, around a table, with a family.”

Tech. Sgt. Michael James, 81st Training Group Ministries NCO in charge, has seen the many positive benefits of this program in past years.

“When they leave here, there is nothing but smiles on their faces,” he said. “They are happy, they’re jovial. It’s a big morale boost for our students.”

NPS airmen can sign up for this event by responding to an E-Invite that will be sent to their .af.mil email address or in person at the Fishbowl Student Ministry Center.

Host family sign-ups are available to anyone with access to base services and are available at Larcher Chapel, Triangle Chapel, or the Fishbowl.  You may also sign-up by phone at (228) 377-4859 or by responding to the E-Invite sent to your official Air Force email address.

Registration for this event ends Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015
