KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The Keesler Airman and Family Readiness Center will be hosting free financial workshops during Military Saves Week Feb. 22-25 in room 108A at the Sablich Center.
Since 2003, Military Saves Week has been a Defense Department initiative to encourage military members and their families to build wealth by reducing debt and saving money.
“Military Saves Week is a great opportunity to help service members and their families in our community set a goal, make a plan, and save automatically,” said John Lowe, A&FRC Community Readiness Consultant.
During this week, the A&FRC will have multiple workshops to include new car buying, and saving and investing.
“The first seminar we are holding is the new car buying seminar on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.,” said Master Sgt. Daniyel Blankenship, A&FRC readiness NCO in charge. “We are also holding a saving and investing seminar on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.”
The workshops’ goals are to equip each Airman and their families with the tips and tricks of buying a vehicle and different ways of saving money.
“These seminars will teach those attending different ways of spending and investing money to set them up for a better future,” said Blankenship. “If you are looking down the road to your retirement, these types of saving and investing is something that Airmen and their families are going to have to start doing at a younger age. So these tips are just step one of managing your money in a better way.”
