336th welcomes new commander

Maj. Jill Heliker, incoming 336th Training Squadron commander, took command from Lt. Col. Daniel Schmitt, outgoing 336th TRS commander, during a change of command ceremony here July 23.

Col. Leo Lawson, Jr., 81st Training Group commander, presided over the ceremony.

Heliker came to Keesler Air Force Base from Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where she was a student of the Air University Intermediate Development Education Fellowship.

"I humbly accept the challenge that lies ahead,” said Heliker. I am incredibly honored and privileged to lead such a phenomenal group of men and women. I look forward to serving beside you and I cannot wait to get down to business doing what we do best.

Schmitt expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the 336th TRS in his final address as commander.

“To my peers, the leadership team, thanks for being my wingmen,” said Schmitt.The personal ties and friendships that have grown over the years. It has truly been my honor to serve as your commander.”

Schmitt’s next assignment will be at the Air Combat Command Directorate of Communications, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he will be the chief of warfighting capabilities and integration division.
