Keesler's Asian-Pacific American Heritage Committee held a fundraiser for the Red Cross international typhoon recovery efforts Dec. 4, at the Triangle Chapel Annex.

All proceeds from roughly 330 pre-sold tickets and the $7.50 plates available went to the Red Cross to help with the Philippine disaster relief, said Staff Sgt. Waymon Brown, 81st Force Support Squadron and committee president.

Typhoon Haiyan was a tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, in early November. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record.

Assisting the victims is a top priority for the APAHC, said Brown.

"We may not be able to go there and assist, but we can still help," said Capt. Jose Lachica, 81st Training Wing chapel services. "Our committee has a strong connection to the victims of the typhoon and we want to be a part of alleviating their pain."

Volunteers from the American Red Cross joined with the APAHC to cook and serve the plates of food, as well as make deliveries to squadrons that made bulk orders.

Most of the proceeds were from preordered food, said Brown.

"The biggest order was from the 333rd Training Squadron," Brown added. "But we have support from all over the base for this great cause."

Vendors from the commissary and members of the APAHC donated money and food for the fundraising event.
