KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Maj. Gen. Timothy Leahy will take command of 2nd Air Force from Maj. Gen. Bob LaBrutta, at 9 a.m., Aug. 23 at the Keesler parade field.
Second Air Force, headquartered in Biloxi, is responsible for conducting basic military and non-flying technical training for the Air Force, joint and coalition enlisted members and support officers. The command provides training in more than 390 Air Force specialties through 1,900 courses graduating 150,000 students annually. Second Air Force includes four training wings, a training group and more than 103 field training units around the world.
Leahy entered the Air Force in 1985 as a Reserve Officer Training Corps graduate of The Citadel. He has held a variety of positions at the major command, sub-unified combatant command, and geographic and functional combatant command levels. He has commanded at the squadron, wing and numbered Air Force level. He is a command pilot with more than 3,200 hours of flight time, primarily in Special Operations Flight aircraft. Prior to this assignment, Leahy was commander of LeMay Center for Doctrine and Education and Vice Commander of the Air University at Maxwell AFB, Ala.
