The 335th Training Squadron’s Weather Training Flight will unveil their latest training aid, Science on a Sphere, Thursday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m. here.

The SOS system, a room-sized global display that uses computers with high-end graphic cards and video projectors to display planetary data onto a suspended carbon-fiber sphere, will allow the weather instructors to enhance student’s understanding of the atmosphere.

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration developed the SOS system. The instructors will employ the system in the Weather Initial Skills and Weather Officer Courses as a tool to supplement our organic course material in order to enhance and reinforce student understanding of fundamental atmospheric and oceanographic processes.

This will represent the first time Department of Defense will utilize the SOS.

Media interested in covering the event should contact the 81st Training Wing Public Affairs office no later than noon, Wednesday, March 22, at (228) 377-2783 or via e-mail at 81trw.pa@us.af.mil to RSVP.
