Keesler Air Force Base continues to respond to a nearly 3,000-gallon diesel fuel spill from a generator at the base commissary. The diesel fuel leaked into a storm drain leading to Biloxi's Back Bay Aug. 30.

"We are taking this situation very seriously and are actively involved with cleanup efforts," said Brig. Gen. Brad Spacy, 81st Training Wing commander.

Keesler is working with the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Environmental Services, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Coast Guard to contain the spill and conduct cleanup operations both on and off base.

"We are doing everything we can to contain the spill including bringing in outside emergency responders," said Terry James, Keesler storm response program manager.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available. All questions can be directed to the 81st Training Wing Public Affairs office at 228-377-2783.
