Colonel BILLY E. POPE, JR.

Col. Billy E. Pope, Jr., is the Commander of the 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. He is responsible for training over 27,000 military personnel and civilians annually. His command oversees the technical training programs across 38 skillsets critical to the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserves, and other Department of Defense agencies, including international students. He directs operations to safeguard and maintain Keesler’s real property and equipment valued at $4.7 billion. His leadership extends to command 12,000 permanent party Airmen, ensuring readiness and capabilities for expeditionary air, space, and cyberspace forces. Notably, he also controls airfield operations supporting 20 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft and the Department of Defense's sole aerial weather reconnaissance mission.

Col. Pope received his commission from the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Redlands in June 2001. He has served in numerous capacities within the communications and cyber operations career fields to include: cyberspace strategy, offensive and defensive cyber operations, and joint special operations communications. Col. Pope previously commanded at the group level and has held positions at service headquarters, joint combatant command, major command, and installation levels within the continental United States and abroad.
