Keesler tests readiness with HAZMAT exercise
Capt. Chase Rogers, 81st Aerospace Medicine Squadron, with the assistance of Airman 1st Class Ionela Wegner, 81st Medical Operations Squadron, administers medical triage to Senior Airman Alfred Smith, 403rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, and Airman 1st Class Timmothy Allred, 81st Contracting Squadron, as they portray “victims” during a hazardous material exercise scenario Nov. 5, 2014, at the Taylor Logistics Center, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. The exercise scenario began with an Airman accidentally hitting a 55-gallon drum of sulfuric acid with a forklift and knocking several more drums off of a truck causing the liquid to splash onto other Airmen. Immediately, the Airmen simulated skin and eye burns from exposure to the agent, while additional Airmen on the loading dock started coughing and experiencing shortness of breath.
