KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- A Career Field Managers Conference and Learning Summit, was held at the Bay Breeze Event Center on Keesler Air Force Base Jan. 29-31.
The conference was held for CFMs to engage with 81st Training Group schoolhouse leadership and advance Air Education and Training Command’s redesign of the continuum of learning for each career field taught in the 81st TRG.
“The two and a half days gave our schoolhouse commanders and CFMs a dedicated opportunity to grow partnerships, capitalize and expand on innovations already occurring at the 81st TRG to give our Airmen the best training possible,” said Col. Leo Lawson, Jr., 81st TRG commander.
CFMs are a center of gravity for CoL redesign efforts because of their influence on training schools’ course content, instructional design and Airmen development, according to Lawson.
“We strive to ensure our new Airmen receive the best, most relevant training for their career field,” said Lawson. “To do this, we must be responsive to changing technologies and drive proactive evolution of our course material, teaching tools and instruction methods.”
During the conference they had baseline discussions of the CoL redesign provided by representatives from AETC, new initiatives relevant to CoL, like blended learning and flipping the classroom, and breakout sessions for CFMs to work directly with their schoolhouse commanders on specific issues and ideas for each course.
“The creativity and talent of the hundreds of new Airmen who arrive to Keesler every week are unmatched,” said Lawson. “A tight relationship between schoolhouse leadership and their associated CFMs is vital to make sure our courses are too. The better our courses are, the better Airmen we provide to the field.”
