KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- To bring attention to breast cancer awareness month, Keesler Medical Center hosted its 8th annual health expo and mammothon Oct. 4, to provide walk-in services and health information.
Airmen from different clinics set up educational booths inside the Don Wylie Auditorium to provide medical insight to people from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The blood donation center, nutritional medicine, and dental were just some of the 25 clinics present.
“This is the first year we subdivided,” said Faith Edwards, 81st Medical Group mammography supervisor. “It’s always been just a mammothon but this is the first year both mammothon and health expo were together.”
The medical center also offered nine different walk-in services to include screening mammograms, bone density screenings, and colonoscopy pre-screenings.
This year’s health expo saw an increase in attendance, as nearly double the amount of people attended in comparison to last year, said Edwards.
“We give people information that really helps them,” said Airman 1st Class Veronica Castro, 81st MDG diet therapy technician. “This can be a life-changing experience for some people.”
