The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will now be hosted by the Jackson County Civic Action Committee in order to continue giving Airmen, DOD employees, and retirees the tax filing assistance they need.

The JCCAC will coordinate with tax volunteers from Keesler and local volunteers to help provide VITA Program in Jackson County.

“There are so many contingencies with VITA,” said Capt. Skylar Augustine, 81st Training Wing assistant staff judge advocate. “We felt it would be better handled somewhere the point-of-contact and the location will always remain the same, we wanted something that was more consistent for our population.”

A benefit of this change is volunteers for JCCAC are trained professionals and readily available to help.

“It’ll be advantageous for individuals who need help to seek it through the JCCAC,” said Augustine. “We want to make sure our clients are protected. Some of our clients have large and complex estates. It’s better for them to go to JCCAC because they have tax experts and specialist available.

The partnership enables the legal office to more effectively help in other serving capacities such as creating wills, providing legal assistance regarding landlord tenant laws, family law, and other areas of law used by Keesler and the local population.

”We always strive to help those who are entitled to the services that we provide.” said Augustine.
