KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Staff Sgt. Michael A. Cinco, 11th Field Investigations special agent, deployed supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan while assigned to Beale Air Force Base, California. His team captured a Taliban leader while conducting an air base ground defense patrol on an outside-the-wire mission. During his deployment, he was also assigned to a United States Army Criminal Investigation Command combat detachment to provide tactical security in order for them to obtain threat information.
In 2015, Cinco deployed to Expeditionary Detachment 2405, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. When conducting operations outside of Bagram Air Base on Dec. 21, 2015, Hustler 6 encountered a motorcycle suicide bomber who detonated explosives killing four Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents, including Cinco, two defenders and wounding others. To date, Dec. 21, 2015 is the deadliest day in AFOSI history.
