Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter and Cpl. Jonathan Yale served in the Sophia section of Ramadi, al Anbar, Iraq. While on duty, a truck rigged with explosives detonated, killing them both. The two died, but saved 150 of their Iraqi and American brothers-in-arms.

Following investigation of the incident, a security camera that was damaged in the blast was discovered with recordings of the attack. The recording showed the truck coming to a stop immediately in front of the two Marines, where they fired back without hesitation.

For their heroism, they were both posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
