20 graduate ALS Published July 3, 2013 By Susan Griggs 81st Training Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- More than 38 percent of the senior airmen who graduated from Keesler Airman Leadership School July 2 are reservists who hail from other bases. Senior Master Sgt. John Bowden Jr., commandant, worked with Air Force Reserve Command manpower and personnel officials to make the training available for reservists, too. He said the increased number of reservists in ALS classes serves three purposes. "It's a way to make sure our seats are filled at ALS," Bowden explained. "Some reservists have six to eight years in the service with no exposure to professional military education and they should have exposure to it a lot sooner. The reservists also create a more diverse learning environment for our active-duty Airmen." "Every other class or so, we are able to have Coast Guard members join our class as well," he added.
