Keesler facilities keep base fit Published April 11, 2013 By 2nd Lt. Michael Alvarez 81st Training Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- William Jinske is in charge of all three gym facilities on base. It is his job to make sure all those gym facilities are safe to use and up-to-date. The Triangle Fitness Center is more popular among the non-prior service Airmen at Keesler. The majority of the equipment consists of weights and cardio equipment. The Triangle Fitness Center holds weight lifting competitions and also has a wall of fame for different weight classes. The three lifting categories are squat, dead lift, and bench press. The Dragon Fitness Center hosts a different crowd. The majority of its users participate in the group fitness classes that are held upstairs in the yoga room or in the new War Fighter Fitness Room. The old basketball court inside the Dragon was recently converted to a high-intensity workout facility with rings, kettle bells, pull up bars, tractor tires and boxes. The Dragon facility is more focused on body weight training and high intensity cardio work. "I really enjoy going to the Dragon gym because I love doing CrossFit workouts." Second Lt. Juan Rodriguez from the 333rd TRS says, "Dragon has everything I need to complete the CrossFit work out of the day. My goal is to compete in the CrossFit Games." The Blake Fitness Center is the biggest facility and has a variety of weights and cardio equipment. This facility is popular among parents because it has a parent-child room. This is a room that has cardio equipment, a playpen with toys and a television to keep kids entertained while their parents work out. This room is free of charge and open to anyone with base access. Every facility offers free personal training, equipment orientations, and personal exercise plans. The Dragon Fitness Center now has the ability to conduct microfit testing which measures body mass index, maximum capacity to transport oxygen during exercise also known as VO2 max, flexibility, situps, and pushups and a health history profile that includes eating, sleeping, drinking and smoking habits. The results from this microfit test generate recommendations on improving health and fitness. All three gym facilities are open to active duty personnel, military spouses, retirees, contractors and Keesler employees. "We are here for active duty personnel, but we give the same amount of attention and care to everybody." Jinske says, "The main goal is to improve everybody's quality of life."
