81st SFS issues warning on leaving children in cars Published June 27, 2012 By Capt. Chris Porta 81st Security Forces Squadron KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Recently there have been an increase in child neglect incidents at Keesler. In each event, children aged 9 or younger were left unattended and without proper supervision in running vehicles. The act of leaving a child unattended in a vehicle, while not intended to cause harm, poses serious risks to the children's welfare, especially considering the Mississippi summer heat. Because of this, Keesler regulations require children to be at least 10 years old to be left alone in vehicles. Children ages 9 or younger may be left unattended only if supervised by someone who is over age 12. In all cases where security forces respond and find that a violation has occurred, the parents are apprehended for child neglect.
