Youth basketball ends, soccer begins Published March 23, 2011 By Susan Griggs 81st Training Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Basketball is winding down and soccer is gearing up at the youth center. "Our youth basketball season began in late January and concludes April 2," said Ryan Rice, youth sports director. "The league consists of more than 110 players in three age divisions -- ages 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13. "We also have a Start Smart basketball program for the 3-year-olds that meets twice a week where we work with the little ones on developing basic basketball skills that will help them as they progress," Rice added. "The Start Smart program depends heavily on parent involvement and has been a huge success this season." Registration for youth soccer continues through April 16 for ages 3-14. Practices start next month and the season ends in June. The cost for soccer is $50 for the first child and $25 for each additional child which covers a uniform, participation award and end-of-season gathering. "We're looking for volunteer soccer coaches now," Rice said. To volunteer as a coach or for more information, call 377-4116.
