An 81st Training Wing legal professional has won Air Education and Training Command's highest civilian attorney award.

Richard Brock, chief of the legal office's civil law division, won the 2007 Wrightson Award for outstanding civilian attorney.

"Mr Brock more than met each tasking assigned to his division; he inspired his team to vault over seemingly insurmountable logistic hurdles confronted at our interim post-Katrina location," said Lt. Col. Deborah Collins, staff judge advocate.

Mr. Brock had already won the outstanding civilian attorney award at 2nd Air Force before being recognized at the major command level.

"It's a nice honor but nobody wins an award by themselves," said Mr. Brock. "It's a group effort and it's because of the personnel in the division. Having good people working with you makes things like this possible," he added.

As chief of the civil law division, Mr. Brock works with a variety of people -- officer, enlisted and civilian.

"With his years of experience and knowledge, the younger attorneys often go to him for advice," said Capt. David Redmond, assistant staff judge advocate. "He always knows the answer."

Mr. Brock and his staff of three paralegals and five attorneys saw more than 4,000 clients during 2007 handling everything from labor law issues to ethics, environmental law and reports of survey.

"We primarily help people," said Mr. Brock. "You shouldn't be an attorney if you don't want to help people."
