Keesler Medical Center's Krewe of Medics held its 27th annual Mardi Gras Ball Jan. 17 at the Bay Breeze Event Center.

The theme of this year's ball was TV Icons. Attendees dressed as their favorite TV characters or formal dress to celebrate. The night started with cocktails and dinner with the royalty being introduced shortly afterwards.

Maj. Marlon Muthuveeran, 81st Medical Support Squadron medical readiness flight commander was crowned King and Sarah Jacobs, Krewe of Medic member, was crowned Queen.

The Krewe of Medics hosts a ball every year to give military personnel assigned to the Keesler Medical Center a taste of the South and an opportunity to experience a traditional Mardi Gras.

The carnival ball is a formal party given by a krewe for its members and their guests. It consists of a royal court with a king, queen, dukes and duchesses who are presented in lavish costumes to an audience of invited guests. The more traditional balls present tableaux, which are staged pageants depicting stories, usually from mythology or history.

The night ended with band entertainment, dancing and the serving of king cake.
