The Keesler Medical Center decontamination team processes “victim” Senior Airman Willie Moore, 81st Logistics Readiness Squadron, during the Nov. 5 major accident response exercise. The exercise scenario involved an Airman accidentally hitting a chemical drum with forklift tines while unloading it from a truck. A drum ruptureed and others were pushed off the truck. Several other Airmen assisting with the unloading are splashed with the brown oily liquid and immediately start to experience skin and eye burns. Additional airmen on the loading dock and in the warehouse start coughing and experiencing shortness of breath. The Airmen that are splashed with the chemical immediately get in a vehicle and head to the Emergency Room. Another airman in the warehouse calls 911 and reports the incident. “Victims” were decontaminated before being triaged and taken into the medical center for care.
