The Keesler Airman's Council and Dorm Council joined forces to host a Block Party July 25, in the field behind Shaw House.

The event had a variety of activities, including a bouncy house, dunk tank, tug-of-war and other interactive games to encourage Airmen camaraderie.

"Airmen who know each other take care of each other," said Airman 1st Class Crystal Starner, Airman's Council president. "So, we threw this morale event to bring Airmen together."

Although the weather turned to rain an hour into the party, Airmen were not deterred.
"I think the rain actually made the party more fun," said Airman 1st Class Deshawn Knight, event volunteer. "Somebody called for tug-of-war while the rain was falling and it ended up being 20 vs. 20 in the mud."

The Airman's Council and Dorm Council operate independently for most of the year, but the opportunity to pool resources allowed for more events and prizes for the Airmen who attended.

"I would say it was a success," said Senior Airman Martin Githui, Dorm Council president. "We are so thankful to be able to hold such events. They always have a positive impact and they create lasting memories. Seeing new Airmen come out and enjoy themselves despite the downpour was a sight to behold."

Raffles, food and tickets for the dunk tank raised approximately $200.

All proceeds for the event went toward the 81st Training Wing Airman Recognition Fund, which pays for awards and ceremonies for junior Airmen.
