Changes to shipping entitlements Published Feb. 18, 2014 By 81st Logistics Readiness Squadron KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Significant changes to the shipment entitlement for professional books, papers and equipment in the Joint Federal Travel Regulations and Joint Travel Regulations will be effective for all household goods moves for orders issued on or after May 1. The weight of items probably moved several times and considered PBP&E are no longer eligible and will count against a member's authorized weight entitlement. Some significant changes (not inclusive) are: - No more than 2,000 lbs maximum, except when returning from outside the continental U.S and if originally shipped more than 2,000 pounds to the OCONUS area. There is no waiver to this limitation. - Cubed weight is now 7 pounds per cubic foot versus 40 pounds. - Items must be required to perform duties at next duty station. - Personal computer equipment and peripheral devices are no longer considered PBP&E. - Going-away gifts, office decorations and pictures, including awards, plaques and other objects presented for past performance, are not considered PBP&E. PBP&E items include: - Reference material not ordinarily available at the next permanent duty station. - Instruments, tools, and equipment peculiar to technicians, mechanics, medical professionals, musicians and members of the professions. - Specialized clothing such as diving suits, astronauts' suits, flying suits and helmets, band uniforms, chaplains' vestments and other specialized apparel not normal or usual uniform or clothing. - Individually-owned or specially-issued field clothing and equipment. - Government or uniformed service-owned accountable organizational clothing and individual clothing property issued to the employee or member by the service/ Department of Defense component for official use. A PBP&E weight allowance not to exceed 500 pounds may be authorized for items belonging to a military member's spouse on a permanent change-of-station move.
