Marina park was transformed into a sleepy hollow Oct. 1 for the annual Ghouls in the Park event.

Outdoor recreation and various sponsors and organizations provided support and entertainment for the event, including "Trunk or Treat" organized by the Keesler Spouses Club and a haunted house hosted by the Airman's council.

"The community really came together for the kids on this," said Staff Sgt. Cassandra Cruz, 81st Medical Group. "We utilized resources from all over base."

Additions this year were a magician, a fortune teller, and an Area 51 complete with an alien in captivity. If the haunted house was too much for small children, a bouncy house and games provided by the youth center offered milder Halloween options.

"It was our largest Ghouls in the Park event ever," said Barbara Medlock, 81st Force Support Squadron. "There were 750 attendees or more."

Students from the 81st Training Group volunteered as "ghouls" to roam around, direct attendees and lead a flash mob at the end of the night to Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

"Learning the dance was a fun and easy way to get involved," said 2nd Lt. Jackie Stammen, 335th Training Squadron.

Sponsors included the commissary, exchange, Keesler Federal Credit Union, Elliott Homes and Wal-Mart.
