Keesler to begin CFC Published Sept. 3, 2013 By Susan Griggs 81st Training Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Keesler's 2013 Combined Federal Campaign kicks off at 3 p.m. Sept. 6 during boss and buddy night at the Bay Breeze Event Center. Brig. Gen. Patrick Higby, 81st Training Wing commander, and Terry Oliver, director for the Greater Mississippi CFC, will launch the campaign, and about 12 local agencies will be on hand to provide information. This year's area campaign, "Serving Our Country - Supporting Our Community," is chaired by Anthony Dawson, director of the Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Health Care System. Keesler's CFC campaign, which runs Sept. 6 through Oct. 4, is an opportunity for federal employees to donate to more than 26,000 charities. Capt. Shawn Adams, 333rd Training Squadron, and Capt. Christopher Porto, 81st Security Forces Squadron, are teaming up to serve as CFC project officers. "The overall goal for the Greater Mississippi CFC is $1 million," Adams said. "Keesler's goal is $160,000, which is $10,000 higher than last year. "We really encourage everyone to donate online," the captain added. "Just go to www.GreaterMSCFC.org to make your pledge." Cash donations, checks, payroll deductions and one-time credit card payments are also accepted. CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 170 CFC campaigns across the U.S. and internationally that help raise millions of dollars each year. The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to support more than 26,000 charities.
