More than 600 Keesler personnel, retirees and dependents attended Keesler’s inaugural Dragon Fest in the field directly south of the base exchange Feb. 26.

Organized by Dragons in Action, the event helped Airmen grow and network through shared interests.

“Dragon Fest is an opportunity for everyone to do what they want and meet other people who have the same interests,” said Col. Michele Edmondson, 81st Training Wing commander. “That’s what Dragon Fest is all about.”

At the event, attendees had the opportunity to foster relationships, get support structures and meet new friends around base who have similar interests.

More than 40 different clubs were available for new wingmen to join.

“It’s a great way to get more outreach and boost morale,” said Airman 1st Class Christopher Philyaw, 81st Staff Judge Advocate paralegal. “Dragon Fest allows us to focus on the wingman concept and to relax and recharge.”

“Dragon Fest went unbelievably well,” said Master Sgt. Mack McCarthy, 81st Surgical Operations Squadron surgical services flight chief. “There was the presence and force of the Airmen, leadership was out there as well and I don’t think we could have asked for better weather.”

During her remarks, Edmondson had one thing to ask everyone in attendance.

“When you meet a new Airman, do me a favor and ask them ‘what’s your thing?’ Then help them get involved in something they’re interested in.”
