The 81st Medical Group is gearing up to host its 5th Annual Mammothon, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Oct. 28, at the Keesler Medical Center.

Beneficiaries eligible for care at Keesler will be able to take advantage of free preventative care screenings for all ages and genders – all without needing to schedule an appointment.

The mammothon continues to expand its roster of walk-in exams, to include:

- Mammograms
- Flu and Hepatitis C shots
- Pap smears
- Vision screenings
- Blood pressure screenings
- Oral cancer screenings
- Colonoscopy scheduling
- Audiology

“The mammothon is all about being proactive,” said Lt. Col. (Dr.) Matthew Barchie, 81st Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutics Squadron mammography officer in charge. “This allows our beneficiaries to take charge of their health. Even though it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have so many more services available than just mammograms. If we look for it, we can find it – and last year we found four breast cancers, one cervical cancer and one oral pre-cancer.

For more information on the mammothon, including a full list of services available that day, call the mammography clinic at 228-376-4824.

*Please note, beneficiaries with an off-base personal care manager should come with a prescription from their doctor for a mammogram.
