KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. --
The 81st Training Wing underwent a Unit Effectiveness Inspection Capstone Oct. 17-21 to rate how effective the wing’s Airmen perform and accomplish the mission.
This past week the inspection team released their findings which classified the 81st TRW with an overall rating of effective.
“This was a thorough review of our entire team and in the end, all major graded areas as well as sub-MGAs were graded effective or above,” said Col. Michele Edmondson, 81st TRW commander. “Of considerable note, we had seven areas graded highly effective. This was an amazing effort by our entire team.”
The UEI Capstone was the culminating event in a two-year process to validate and verify the wing’s ability to show compliance, conduct critical self-assessment and apply continuous process improvement to the mission. The four MGAs the team assessed included how the wing members manage resources, work to improve the unit, lead people and execute the mission. This was Keesler's second UEI since the inception of the new Air Force Inspection System.
“Team Keesler's hard work and dedication to task yielded a 43.5 percent reduction in noted deficiencies as compared to the Dec. 2014 inspection report,” said Lt. Col. Billy Wilson, 81st TRW Inspector General.
Prior to the inspection the IG staff created a Management Internal Control Toolset manager SharePoint site which provided commanders and self-assessment program users a comprehensive view of their self-assessment communicator checklist status and open observations at a moment's notice.
“This initiative was noted as a ‘strength’ within the inspection report,” Wilson said. “I am very proud of the way our command and control, electronic, computer/cyber, weather, medical, personnel, comptroller and information management subject matter experts came together to showcase Keesler's best to the Air Education and Training Command IG Inspection Team.”
The inspectors will release a complete UEI report Nov. 2.
“Thank you for all your effort, your leadership and commitment to our great mission,” Edmondson said. “There were multiple commendable areas and we will highlight those as the evaluation report becomes official. I’m extremely proud of how well you all did and the IG walked away with an incredibly positive impression of our Dragon Team.”
The next scheduled UEI will take place in November 2018.
