A conviction was returned April 23 in the general court-martial of Tech. Sgt. Bobby Bass.

Bass, a former basic military training instructor at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, was convicted of 31 specifications after an almost seven-day court-martial. For the charges and specifications relating to his time as an MTI at JBSA in 2009, he was found guilty of 11 of 11 specifications of dereliction and failure to obey a lawful order, 13 of 16 specifications of cruelty and maltreatment, two of two specifications of wrongful sexual contact, and four of four specifications of assault.

The court-martial also included charges stemming from Bass' deployment to the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan in 2007 and 2008. He was found not guilty of forcible sodomy and found guilty of the unprofessional relationship charge.

The two incidents came to light after the Air Force launched comprehensive internal and external investigations at Air Force basic military and technical training centers.

Sentencing will be announced once court member deliberations are complete.
