What: The Earth-Arbor Day Celebration 

When: 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., April 22 

Where: Marina Park, Keesler AFB 

Background: The Earth-Arbor Day Celebration is Keesler's way to highlight and bring awareness to many green/environment topics. Activities include a "Great Green Expo" where over 30 exhibitors will showcase a variety of environmental topics to include: saving energy and water, local wildlife, green choices, forestry and ecology, etc. 

The Great Green Expo will be held at the Marina beginning at 9 a.m. Children from area schools will be visiting the Expo from 9 -11 a.m. Children will also be treated to a Recycling Center tour. Base populace are invited to bring a brown bag lunch to the Marina, enjoy Earth Day outdoors, and visit the Great Green Expo from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 

The first 200 Expo attendees will be given a free tree and energy efficient light bulb. An Arbor Day Tree Planting ceremony and Tree City Award ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m.  At 1 p.m., individuals may attend a tour of the new Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design homes, where an accredited Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design professional will explain the LEED home attributes. 

Household Hazardous Waste Turn-in will be conducted from 9 a.m.- Noon at the recycling center. Old household paints, cleaners, oil or petroleum products, and most other chemicals are considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly. Hazardous waste is anything classified as flammable, corrosive, toxic, poisonous, or reactive.
