Keesler's Health and Wellness Center is scheduled to close Oct. 1.

The health promotion programs and positions at the HAWC are transitioning to strengthen a healthier culture that aligns with the Air Force surgeon general's vision of being the healthiest and highest performing group in the United States by 2025.

The changes follow the lead of Air Force Health Promotion goals that focus less on health facility concepts and more on capabilities as cost-effectively as possible.

"Policy and environmental interventions are cost-effective, align with the Air Force 'Every Dollar Counts' campaign and will improve Airman health and readiness," said Col. (Dr.) John Oh, Air Force Medical Services Agency's health promotion chief. "The focus will be building a culture of health with involvement from all agencies, leaders and medical professionals promoting a healthy lifestyle instead of the model of the Health and Wellness Center being the focal point," said Terri Jordan, a member of the 81st Aerospace Medicine Squadron and Keesler's health promotions coordinator."

Jordan will relocate to Keesler Medical Center.

Because there will only be one staff member at the HAWC until Oct. 1, there will be times during the day when services will be limited or unavailable.

"I encourage commanders, base organizations, groups or other agencies that want to improve their members' health to contact me," Jordan said. "My main focus is outreach to the community which means I come to you."
